MOUNT IDA COMMUNITY RAISE FUNDS/FOOD AT TURKEY TROT

MOUNT IDA COMMUNITY RAISE FUNDS/FOOD AT TURKEY TROT

The 2011 Mount Ida College Turkey Trot went off without a hitch on Friday, Nov. 4th with over 50 students, faculty and staff taking part to help raise both money for the Mount Ida College Book Fund as well as canned goods for the Newton Food Pantry.

A small entry fee of $3.00 plus a donation of 1 canned good got everyone that participated a Turkey Trot t-shirt and a little exercise on a beautiful fall day in Newton, MA.  The 5K run/walk started at 1:30 pm and included 3 laps around the Mount Ida College campus road with a little bit of competition and fun among friends.

Dan Rubin (Statin Island, NY), a sophomore, finished at the front of the pack on the men's side with a time of 15:53, a full 1:21 ahead of the next finisher, Tim Gil (Lowell, MA).

Samantha Spiezio (Burriville, RI) took the top spot on the women's side with a time of 18:52 with Michelle Richard (Nashua, NH) coming in less than 1 minute later at 19:41.

Overall, the Turkey Trot raised over $150 to be donated to the Mount Ida College Book Fund along with dozens of canned goods that will be brought to the Newton Food Pantry for distribution during the holiday season.

Thank you to all who participated as well as those who simply donated extra money.  Also, a special thanks to the members of the Sports Management's Events Management Class who planned the event and ran it from begining to end.
