Zombie Run Has People Running For Their Lives

Zombie Run Has People Running For Their Lives

Could you survive a zombie apocalypse? Why don’t you test your running skills next year in the 2014 zombie run? This year's zombie run was a huge success, but not many survived with their lives.

With Zombies at every turn throughout the mile long course, The Mount Ida Zombie Run had “survivors” with three flags (lives) running from real live zombies.  The zombies were trying to take the survivors lives and the survivors with the most flags (lives) to finish the race first were considered the winners.

Survivor to zombie ratio was about 2:1 with 30 survivors and 15 zombies. The survivors were weaving in and out of building all throughout the campus, running for their lives. The survivors and zombies both had to pay a $3 admission fee to receive their official 2013 Zombie Run t-shirts (designed by Mount Ida's own Nelson Curet).  A makeup artist was on hand to give the zombies that "freshly dead" look and the zombies were then stationed around the course to jump out and surprise the survivors. This years event was set up and orchestrated by a class in the sport management curriculum (Sport Practicum II) and sponsored by the Intramural Department and the Senior class of 2013.

Prizes were awarded to the top male and female finisher and the top zombies in the event. You do not have to come in first to win the race, you have to come in with the most flags still attached. The overall winner of the zombie run; Kevin McKeon actually came in second but he still had a flag remaining so he got the top prize; a gift card to PF Changs. The survivor who came in first was Daniel Ortiz but he had no flags remaining so he received a Dunkin Donuts gift card. The female survivor who came in first place Kassandra Hernandez she also received a gift card. Out of respect for the dead the two zombies who took the most “lives” will remain nameless but they also received prizes, visa cards they could use where ever they wanted.

Next years Zombie Run will be bigger and better, so don't miss out on the fun!
