The Mount Ida College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Invitational this past weekend with both squads snatching a 36th place finish Saturday morning in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
The first Mustang to cross the finish line for the men's team in the 8K was freshman Daniel Rubin (Staten Island, NY/Somersville HS (NJ)) in 233rd place with a time of 31:59. Junior Sean Slattery (South Burlington, VT/South Burlington) was next in 248th place with a time of 33:32 while fellow teammate and sophomore Jake Davis (Chester, NH/Pinkerton Academy) was two spots behind Slattery finishing in 251st place with a time of 33:45. Sophomore newcomer Michael Durand (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) crossed in 255th place with a time of 34:27 followed by senior Derek Broughton (Peabody, MA/Peabody) running in his first race of the season finishing in 257th place with a time of 34:51. The last two Mount Ida men's cross country runners to cross were sophomore's Ryan Tirell (Yorktown, NY/Yorktown) and John Whelan (Cranston, RI/Bishop Hendricken) with Tirelli crossing in 263rd place with a time of 35:49 and Whelan finishing in 267th place clocking in at 37:32.
The women's cross country squad saw their first runner cross in 206th place, junior veteran Jeileen Rivera (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central), with a time of 22:17. Freshman standout Therese Pymento (Newburyport, MA/Bishop Fenwick) would finish in 243rd place and the second Mustang to cross with a time of 23:51. Following Pymento was junior newcomer Lindsay Pitts (Brockton, MA/West Bridgewater) in 251st place with a time of 24:17. Three spots behind Pitts was sophomore first year runner Alexandria Milot (Tiverton, RI/Tiverton) in 255th place with a time of 24:31. Senior's captain Melissa Fuller (Woburn, MA/Woburn) (272nd; 26:59), Danielle Chuba (Wrightstown, NJ/Northern Burlington Regional) (277th; 28:20), and junior Mairead Coleman (Cranston, RI/Cranston) were all towards the back of the pack finishing respectively.
The Mustangs will travel to the Elms College Invitational this coming Saturday with the women's starting at 11:00 a.m. and the men's team immediately following.
