NEWTON, Mass. – Mount Ida College hosted their final Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular season games of the year on Saturday evening and fell 3-0 in both of their matches to Rivier University and Saint Joseph's College of Maine.
Mount Ida falls to 10-16 and 2-7 in the GNAC with the loss, while the Raiders swept the Monks in the neutral site game and came out of the tri-match with an unblemished 10-0 mark in the conference and a 24-5 record overall.
Saint Joseph's Maine goes to 23-5 (7-3 GNAC) with the split.
Saint Joseph's Maine 3, Mount Ida 0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-22)
Double-doubles from Kristy Walton (Fairhaven, Mass.) and Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) were not enough to help the Mustangs avoid a defeat at the hands of Saint Joseph's. Walton tallied 11 kills and 11 digs, while Reidy recorded 10 kills and 13 digs, with each player adding two service aces.
Senior Taylor Davis (Machiasport, Maine) picked up 29 assists, and junior Molly Alkinburg (Port Deposit, Md.) added seven kills in a losing effort and senior Kelcey Koolman (Bedford, N.H.) had a game-high 17 digs.
The Monks made just seven errors on 102 attempts, including hitting .357 in the third set en route to the straight set victory. Felicia Wachowiak (Milton, N.H.) registered a team-high 11 kills and had three and a half blocks, while Mariah Hebert (Biddeford, Maine) had 25 assists and Jennelle Thompson (Farmington, N.H.) had 15 digs.
Rivier 3, Mount Ida 0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-20)
Reidy piled up 11 more kills and Koolman again led all players with 15 digs, but the Mustangs couldn't stop the Raiders offense, particularly in the first set when Rivier hit a flawless 17-0-31 for a .548 attacking percentage.
Long-time teammates Jackie Pisecco (Chelmsford, Mass.) and junior Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the Raiders with with eleven and ten kills, respectively, and Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, Calif.) piled up 20 assists in the win, while libero Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) had 14 digs and served 3 of Rivier's eight service aces.
Rivier 3, Saint Joseph's Maine 0 (25-17, 25-9, 25-22)
Silverman (10 kills) and Pisecco (11 kills) were each in double-digits again, joined by junior Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.), who also had ten kills, and set up by the 32 assists from O'Reilly, who added 11 digs in the win, one of four Raiders players in double-digits in that category.
Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) tallied 15 digs and six kills, and Lyndsey Sweeney (Coventry, R.I.) had three of the Raider's 12 service aces.
For the Monks, Wachowiak led the way with seven kills and Hebert posted 18 assists, while Shadai Gosselin (Somersworth, N.H.) had a team-high 11 digs defensively.
Mount Ida will play their final regular season home game of the year next Tuesday evening when they host Salem State University at 6:00 pm, a match that will also serve to celebrate the team's two seniors, Koolman and Davis.
