Mustangs Sweep Non-Conference Tri-Match

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Mount Ida College women's volleyball team won both non-conference tilts this afternoon on the campus of UMass Dartmouth. The Mustangs defeated both the hosting Corsairs and the Lions of Eastern Nazarene by final scores of 3-1.

With the wins, Mount Ida moves to 7-10 overall and 0-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. 

Game one for Mount Ida saw the Mustangs beat UMD by final scores of 25-14, 25-19, 20-25, and 25-13.

Mount Ida sophomore Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) put forth nine kills, one service ace, four digs, and two blocks. Reidy was assisted by junior Alysha Dunbar (Quincy, Mass.) who contributed nine kills, one assist, and six digs. The Mustangs' offense was set up by senior Taylor Davis (Machiasport, Maine.) who had a game-high 26 assists.

For the Corsairs, senior captain Jasmine Burris (New Bedford, Mass.) led the Corsairs with a team high nine kills. Burris rounded out her effort by chipping in one service ace and three digs. Classmate Eliza Bowes (West Yarmouth, Mass.) added to the attack with seven kills, two assists, and four digs. They were set up by junior Christina Spinazola (Medway, Mass.) who put in a complete effort with two kills, 18 assists, three service aces, and nine digs. 

Mount Ida defeated the Lions by final scores of 20-25, 27-25, 25-14, 25-16 in their second game of the non-conference tri-match. 

Reidy once again led the Mustangs notching 20 kills, one service ace, five digs and three blocks. Molly Alkinburg (Port Deposit, Md.) tallied 10 of her own kills and four digs.

For Eastern Nazarene, Hannah Welsh (Derry, N.H.) notched a team-high 12 kills on the day to go with 15 assists, 16 digs, four aces and four digs. Joanna Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) posted 12 blocks, including an eight-rejection performance against the Mustangs.

Mount Ida will return to action on Wednesday, October 7th when they travel to New Haven, Conn. in a GNAC matchup against Albertus Magnus at 7:00.
