NEWTON, Mass. – The Mount Ida College women's volleyball team picked up a 3-1 victory over Mitchell College on Saturday afternoon but dropped a 3-1 decision in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match against host Lasell College to settle for a split of their matches and move their record to 5-8 (0-1 GNAC).
Mount Ida 3, Mitchell 1 (25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 25-16)
Sophomore Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) led the way for the Mustangs with 17 kills, junior Molly Alkinburg (Port Deposit, Md.) added nine kills while hitting .368 for the match. Freshmen Kristy Walton (Fairhaven, Mass.) put together a solid all-around performance for Mount Ida, finishing with five kills, five service aces and 12 digs, and Kelcey Koolman (Bedford, N.H.) notched a team-high 14 digs.
Junior Amanda Rowan (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and senior Amanda Garcia paced the Mitchell attack with nine and eight kills respectively, while Nicole Caminiti added a match-best 22 assists and 14 digs for the Mariners.
Lasell 3, Mount Ida 0 (25-15, 24-26, 25-17, 25-17)
Mount Ida was paced by Mary Kate Reidy who finished with nine kills, Alysha Dunbar who added 13 assists and five service aces with Kelcey Koolman anchoring the Mustangs defense with 20 digs.
Lasell College saw three players reach double digit kills in the final match of the afternoon, as Odina Ellis tallied 12 kills, and Sharisse Scott-Rawlins and Olivia Addington each chipped in with 10 apiece. Taylor Tiezzi directed the Lasell attack, collecting 33 assists while Caitlyn Garcia notched a match-high 21 digs.
Mount Ida will take on Lesley on Monday September 28th in a non-conference home match at 6:00 p.m.
Mitchell will visit Trinity College on Tuesday September 29th at 7:00 p.m. and the Lasers return to the hardwood when they host University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in a non-league tilt on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7:00 p.m.
