Women's Volleyball Battles Lasers, Monks in Final GNAC Tri-Match

NEWTON, Mass. -- Mount Ida travelled to local rival Lasell College on Saturday afternoon for the final Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's volleyball tri-match of the year.

In the first game, the host Lasers took down the Mustangs in three sets by scores of 25-12, 25-23, 25-18.

The Green and White took a set in their second match but fell to Saint Joseph's (ME) in four sets, 25-10, 17-25, 25-14, 25-11.

Junior Hillary Kostner (Corona, Calif.) matched her second-highest total of the year with 14 kills in the loss to Saint Joseph's while also providing 12 digs and serving three aces in an all-around solid showing.

Kostner was joined in double-digits by Kelcey Koolman (Bedford, N.H.), with 18 digs, while junior Nicole Peixoto (New Bedford, Mass.) handed out 19 assists.

Monks setter Mariah Hebert was on-point, giving out 28 assists, 13 of which went to kills leader Felicia Wachowiak. Abbie McPhee led the way defensively with 22 digs and had three service aces herself.

Against Lasell, the Mustangs got match-highs in kills, with six from freshman Kellie Schroeder (North Grafton, Mass.) and digs, where Kelcey Koolman (Bedford, N.H.) registered 19.

Peixoto also had a game-high, with 23 assists.

The Lasers hit .228 as a team and got six kills apiece from Abigail Rollins and Sharisse Scott-Rawlins.

Alyssa Nahigian dished out 12 assists and Jordan seid led the team defensively with 11 digs.

The Lasers were also powerful at the net, with six total blocks, while each team ahd five service aces.

The Mustangs will celebrate Senior Day on Tuesday at 6:00 pm when they host non-conference foe Salem State in their final regular season home game of the year.
