The Mount Ida College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-17, 28-26, 28-18) non-conference volleyball match Thursday against hosting Babson College.
Mount Ida falls to 12-13 with their sixth loss in the last seven matches.
Mount Ida was paced by senior Rachelle Gilbert (Corunna, IN/Dekalb), who recorded a team-high seven kills and 10 digs, and junior Jennifer Ferreira (Shirley, MA/Ayer) who chipped in with six kills and a team-high 13 digs. First-year Shay Collins (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) had six kills against only one error, while senior Cody Fusco (San Francisco, CA/San Francisco Waldorf) dished out a team-high 11 assists, recorded eight digs, and had four kills in a losing effort. First-year Nicole Peixoto (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) added seven digs and eight assists for the Mustangs.
Senior captain Meg Flaherty (Hollis, N.H.) recorded a game-high 22 kills while hitting .529 for the Beavers, and classmate Alexa Untermann (Honolulu, Hawaii) and junior Cathy Tinker added 10 and five kills, respectively, to pace the attack. Junior captain Kathleen Lynch (Quincy, Mass.) had a great all-around game for Babson posting a game-high 38 assists, and chipping in with seven digs and four kills. Sophomore Karla Flores (San Juan, Puerto Rico) had a match-high 14 digs, while first-year Brianna San Diego (Daly City, Calif.) added seven digs and two kills.
The second set featured 11 ties and five lead changes, with neither team leading by more than four at any point. With the game tied at 11, the Mustangs ripped off five of the next six points to take a 16-12 lead before the Beavers came storming back to take a 19-17 lead. Mount Ida had leads of 24-23 and 25-24, but Untermann kept the match alive twice with kills at game-point, before Tinker and Flaherty finished the game with back-to-back kills to give Babson a 28-26 win and two-set advantage. The Beavers had 21 kills to just six errors for the game.
Mount Ida closes out its season on Saturday, when they travel to Emmaunel to face the Saints and Emerson College in a GNAC tri-match.
