WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL FALLS SHORT IN 3-2 LOSS TO LYONS

Mount Ida College women's volleyball junior outside hitter Jennifer Ferreira (Shirley, MA/Ayer) recorded a match high 18 kills but the Mustangs fell short in a very tight 3-2 loss by scores of 19-25, 18-25, 25-23, 25-21, and 14-16 against hosting non-conference Wheaton College Wednesday afternoon in Norton, Massachusetts.

The Mustangs, who are 1-3 in five set matches so far this season, fall to an overall record of 4-4 with their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match coming up this weekend.

Mount Ida dropped the first two sets of the match losing 19-25 and 18-25.  They came roaring back to capture a game three 25-23 win and another in game four winning 25-21.  The Mustangs brought game five down to the wire but eventually fell 14-16 in the deciding game to the Lyons for the 3-2 loss.

Along with her 18 kills, Ferreira notched 13 digs and a block assist.  Sophomore outside hitter Emily Hutvagner (Beacon Falls, CT/Woodland Regional) enjoyed her best individual match of the season adding 10 kills on 21 attempts with only three errors also chipping in 24 digs.

Senior captain and setter Cody Fusco (San Francisco, CA/San Francisco Waldorf) dished out 19 assists only with 11 digs while junior libero Toni Vegiard (South Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) added a team high 29 digs.

The Mustangs will host their first GNAC tri-match of the season against visiting St. Joseph's College (ME) and Suffolk University with festivities slated at 10:00 a.m.
