WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL WINS EIGHTH STRAIGHT IN GNAC TRI-MATCH

The Mount Ida College women's volleyball team captured their seventh and eighth consecutive match victories in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match last Saturday beating hosting Simmons College 3-2 by scores of 12-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-21, and 15-8.  The Mustangs went on to snatch their second GNAC match win of the day against visiting Albertus Magnus College winning 3-0 by scores of 25-11, 25-20, and 25-12.  The Mustangs, who are now on an eight match win streak, improve to and overall record of 16-5 going 5-2 in conference play. 

After falling behind in the first two games (12-25, 21-25) trailing 2-0 early, Mount Ida came surging back to capture the next three games by scores of 26-24, 25-21, and 15-8 handing the Mustangs the 3-2 GNAC match victory over hosting Simmons College in dramatic fashion.

The Mustangs were led offensively by senior captain Chelsea Darnell (Dublin, OH/Dublin Scioto) with 11 kills on 35 attempts with only two errors also adding 11 digs and four services aces.  Senior captain Kira Feeter (Keene, NH/Keene) led the Mustangs in assists with 19 chipping in five service aces as well.  Mount Ida freshman middle blocker Devyn Frank (Mystic, CT/Fitch) chipped in 10 kills while fellow freshman middle Christine Gallart (Germantown, MD/St. John's College HS) added nine kills and two solo blocks.

Mount Ida didn't back off in match two against visiting Albertus Magnus College winning 3-0 by scores of 25-11, 25-20, and 25-12.  The Mustangs were led by Frank who was outstanding with 12 kills on 15 attempts with no errors along with four service aces.  Mount Ida junior setter Cody Fusco (San Francisco, CA/San Francisco Waldorf) dished out 13 assists adding five digs.
