The Mount Ida College women's volleyball team captured two victories this past Saturday in a non-conference tri-match hosted by Elms College winning 3-0 by scores of 25-10, 25-14, and 26-24 against the Blazers followed by another 3-0 blanking over visiting Becker College by scores of 25-16, 25-10, and 25-14 in Chicopee, Massachusetts. The Mustangs improve to an overall record of 11-5 and remain at 1-2 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) standings.
Against the Blazers, the Mustangs built a two-set lead in the match before Elms rallied in the third set and maintained a narrow lead for the majority of the frame. Tied 23-23, the Blazers took the lead on a Mount Ida miscue before a Blazers' attacking error and back-to-back kills from Jennifer Ferreira (Shirley, MA/Ayer) sealed the victory for the Mustangs.
Ferreira finished with a team-high 16 kills while Chelsea Darnell (Dublin, OH/Dublin Scioto) followed with 15. Darnell also added a match-high 14 digs in the win. The Mustangs hit .362 for the match led by 22 assists from Kira Feeter (Keene, NH/Keene) and 21 helpers from Cody Fusco (San Francisco, CA/San Francisco Waldorf). Fusco also tallied 12 digs.
The Mustangs handled the Hawks very quickly winning by scores of 25-16, 25-10, and 25-14 in a 3-0 non-conference romping. Mount Ida was led by sophomore middle blocker Devyn Frank (Mystic, CT/Fitch) with 12 kills with one error on 19 attempts good for an impressive .579 hitting percentage. Sophomore libero Michelle Begley (West Barnstable, MA/West Barnstable) added a time high seven digs.
The Mustangs will head to non-conference Daniel Webster College Tuesday night starting at 7:00 p.m.
