Thursday, September 30, 2010 (Newton, Massachusetts) - The Mount Ida College women's volleyball team snapped a two game losing streak with a 3-0 non-conference victory over visiting Lesley University by scores of 25-10, 25-15, and 25-6 Thursday evening in Newton, Massachusetts. The Mustangs improve to a 9-5 record and remain at 1-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play while the Lynx fall to 5-6 overall in 2010.
Mount Ida dominated the entire match never relinquishing a lead in all three games played. In game one the Mustangs cruised early with outstanding net play by sophomore's Christine Gallart (Germantown, MD/St. John's College HS) and Devyn Frank (Mystic, CT/Fitch) for the early 1-0 match lead winning 25-15 convincingly.
Game two was much of the same snatching an impressive 25-10 set with a high powered offense leading 2-0. The best was for last with the Mustangs commanding the entire set with an overwhelming 25-6 bludgeoning for the 3-0 non-conference match victory.
The Mustangs were led by senior Chelsea Darnell (Dublin, OH/Dublin Scioto) with nine kills while junior setter Cody Fusco (San Francisco, CA/San Francisco Waldorf) dished out 14 assists. Frank added four solo blocks as well.
Mount Ida will travel to Elms College this coming Saturday in Chicopee, Massachusetts for a non-conference tri-match against the Blazers and visiting Becker College starting at 2:00 p.m.
