MUSTANG VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO EMERSON 3-0

The Mount Ida College women's volleyball team dropped their third consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match this past Tuesday afternoon at rival Emerson College by scores of 25-8, 25-11, and 25-20.  The Mustangs fall to 4-7 overall, 0-3 in the GNAC while the Lions improve to 10-3 on the year, 1-0 in conference play. 

Mount Ida had a tough day around the net unable to put together much offense throughout the entire match.  Junior Chelsea Darnell (Dublin, OH/Dublin Scioto) notched four kills and added eight digs while senior Amanda Pereira (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) and freshman Devyn Frank (Mystic, CT/Fitch) notched two kills each.  Junior Kira Feeter (Keene, NH/Keene) and sophomore Cody Fusco (San Francisco, CA/San Francisco Waldorf) tallied five assists a piece with Feeter adding 11 digs.

The hosts took control of the first set early racing out to a 10-5 lead. At 12-6, Erin Connolly (Sr., Quincy, Mass.) served five straight points for the Lions. Following an exchange of serves, Katie Bailey (So., Calabasas, Calif.) drilled four consecutive service aces to give Emerson a 22-7 edge. Set point came on a block by the Lions' Lauren Zaniboni (Jr., San Diego, Calif.) and Jess Drumright (So., San Francisco, Calif.).

The second set saw Emerson stake itself to a 13-8 lead. Zaniboni then served seven consecutive points. Following an exchange of rotations, a pair of kills by Connolly and one each by Kelsey Scanlon (FY, Sonoma, Calif.) and Zaniboni closed out the set.

The third set was close throughout with Mount Ida holding a 17-14 lead. Emerson pulled even on a kill by Scanlon and took an 18-17 lead on a Zanaboni attack, followed by a second slam by the middle hitter. Scanlon served out the match with a service ace and a kill error by Mount Ida.

The Mount Ida women's volleyball team will host their first GNAC tri-match against visiting Pine Manor College and Suffolk University this coming Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m.
