The Mount Ida College women's volleyball team fell in the quarterfinal round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) 3-0 to hosting Rivier College by scores on 25-10, 25-11, and 25-18. The Mustangs wrap up the 2009 season with an overall record of 17-11, 8-5 in conference play while the Raiders will go on to the semifinals to face Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts this coming Saturday.
After trading points for the first three sets of game one, Rivier pulled ahead of the Mustangs when the hosts went on a serving run that put them up 9-3. The Raiders never looked back, continuing to extend their lead and not letting Mount Ida to get into any type of flow offensively capturing game one 25-10.
Game two looked much like game one, with the Raiders tough serving keeping the Mustang attack at bay by forcing bad passes and taking the entire offense out of system. The hosts would snatch the second set as well by a score of 25-11.
The third game wasn't any different than the last two sets with the Mustangs trailing immediately by eight points with the score staying that way for most of the game. The visitors had a late surge to pull within five points down 18-23, but Rivier would side out to get to game point cruising to a 25-18 game loss for Mount Ida along with the 3-0 shutout loss in their final set of the season.
Congratulations to the Mount Ida College women's volleyball season on another successful season this 2009!
