WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL BLANKS VISITING EASTERN NAZ 3-0

The Mount Ida College women's volleyball team hosted non-conference opponent Eastern Nazarene College winning in three straight set (3-0) by scores of 25-19, 25-9, and 25-19.  The Mustangs improve to 12-7 overall and remain at 5-3 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) while the Lions fall to 3-17.

The hosts pulled out to an early three point lead up 8-5 after an error by the Mustangs in front of the net.  Mount Ida came back following a 5-2 run knotting the score at 10-10 after an error by Eastern Nazarene.  After exchanging points for the net couple of sets, the Mustangs powered a 6-0 run to pull ahead to a commanding 18-12 lead capped off by a senior Lauren Biondo (Coventry, RI/Coventry) kill.  The Mustangs eventually cruised to a 25-19 game one victory and a 1-0 match lead.

Mount Ida jumped ahead quickly in game two leading 8-1 showcasing some serious offensive power along with a couple errors mixed in by the Lions.  With the hosts leading 15-6, senior Amanda Pereira (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) went on a serving run notching three aces during the process taking a controlling 20-7 advantage.  The Mustangs would capture game two on a final point solo block by senior Cherie Parisi (South Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) winning 25-9 up 2-0 in the match.

The Mustangs picked up where they left off holding a solid 8-2 lead capped by a Biondo kill in the start of game three.  The visitors started to creep back into the game when Mount Ida put some of their younger players in, up 15-10, after a receiving error by the hosts.  The Mustangs went on a small 4-0 run after a huge block by freshman Devyn Frank (Mystic, CT/Fitch) leading 19-11.  Mount Ida followed by giving up eight more points but held off their opponents for the 25-19 game three victory and the 3-0 non-conference match win.

Mount Ida will travel to GNAC member Johnson & Wales University this coming Tuesday night starting at 7:00 p.m.
