WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL DOWNS NEWBURY COLLEGE 3-0

The Mount Ida College women's volleyball team hosted Newbury College tonight winning in straight games by scores of 25-6, 25-9, and 25-6 for the 3-0 victory.  The Mustangs would improve to 4-7 overall while the Nighthawks drop to 1-6 on the season.

Mount Ida dominated game one breaking out to an early 5-1 lead on four straight Newbury errors.  The Mustangs would give up only six more points the entire set and catch fire offensively scoring eight consecutive points for the win.  The visitors didn't help their cause accounting for double digit errors while Mount Ida finished them off 25-6.

The errors would continue to pile up on the Nighthawks, starting game two with six consecutive miss hits giving the Mustangs the opening 7-2 lead.  Mount Ida followed suit scoring 12 points in a row never looking back taking the victory 25-9.

Game three was tied at 2-2 until the Mustangs decided to pour on the offense like that had the entire match.  Newbury struggled to keep pace with the Mustangs, continuing to make errors that distanced the advantage for the hosts.  Mount Ida would win handily by a score of 25-6 for the 3-0 match victory, their fourth of the season.

The Mustangs were led by senior captain Blair Canan (North Reading, MA/North Reading) who tallied seven kills along with sophomore Chelsea Darnell (Dublin, OH/Dublin Scioto) who also notched seven.  Sophomore Kira Feeter (Keene, NH/Keene) had 19 assists while senior captain Stephanie Saito (West Linn, OR/West Linn) had three service aces.

The Mustangs will travel to Clark University this coming Thursday for more non-conference action.  Game time will begin at 7:00 p.m.
