BABSON SPIKES MOUNT IDA, 3-0, Mustangs Take Second Loss of Season

The Babson College women’s volleyball team handed visiting Mount Ida College just its second loss of the season with a brilliant effort on Thursday night, as the Beavers toppled the Mustangs, 3-0 (30-22, 30-27, 30-28). Babson improved to 3-5 with its second straight victory, while Mount Ida fell to 10-2.

After leading throughout game one, Babson faced big deficits in each of the final two frames before rallying to victory. The Beavers recovered from an early 11-point deficit to take game two, 30-37, and then battled back from a 25-17 deficit to claim game three, 30-28.

Leading the charge for Babson was senior Carlen Palau (Silver Springs, Md.), who posted a team-best nine kills against only five errors on 24 attack attempts while adding 11 digs. First-year Tina Kaindl (Niederteuten, Austria) continued her strong rookie campaign with eight kills, and sophomore Caitlin O’Neill (Lynnfield, Mass.) recorded seven more. Senior co-captain Mandi Blackmer (Honeoye, N.Y.) led the team with 29 assists, and junior libero Ryan DePaoli (Kennesaw, Ga.) added a team-high 17 digs.

Mount Ida will host its first Tri - Match of the season for their new conference, The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) with Johnson & Wales University and St. Joseph's of Maine on Saturday, September 15, 2007 starting at 10:00 a.m.
