The Mount Ida College Women’s Volleyball team hosted
Eastern Nazarene College tonight in a non-conference match up. The
Mustangs beat the Crusaders for the first time in their history in
a sweep, 3-0. MIC was 0-5 against ENC in past meetings.
Game one was very close but the Mustangs pulled out the win with
some great offense from freshman outside hitter Chelsea
Darnell (Dublin, OH/Dublin Scioto) and Sophomore
Amanda Pereira (New Bedford, MA/New
Bedford) winning 30-24. There were minimal errors on
the home side helping them cruise into game two up 1-0.
It was another close one in game two with the Mustangs winning
30-27 on a well balanced attack with solid performance by Senior
captain Adrienne Xenos (Brockton,
MA/Brockton) and sophomore libero Megan
Svendsen (Sebastopol, CA/Analy). Xenos commanded the
net with numerous blocks to give the home team the advantage.
Svendsen chipped in three service aces to regain the lead for her
team. The score was tied 10 times with eight lead changes. It
looked was a rough start for the home team with six errors in the
first 10 points, but they pulled it out to go up 2-0.
Game three was closed out by the Mustangs winning 3-25 to complete
the sweep. It was another spectacular game by Xenos dominating the
middle. Middle hitter Lauren Biondo (Coventry,
RI/Conventry) pushed her team head by four, 19-15 to
motivate them to never look back.
The Mustangs will host the Great Northeast Athletic Conference
(GNAC) tri–match this weekend with Norwich University and
Albertus Magnus College traveling to campus for a 11:00 a.m. start.
