The Mount Ida Women’s Volleyball team hosted Regis College
on Senior Night to recognize captain middle hitter
Adrienne Xenos (Brockton, MA/Brockton) on
her contributions as a Mustang.
Game one was all Mount Ida scoring the first seven points on some
serious offense. Xenos dominated the middle with some vicious hits
putting the momentum on the home side right away. MIC led by as
many as 12 towards the end of the first set at the 25-13 mark they
would wrap things up to go ahead 1-0 on a 30-18 score.
The Mustangs lost their touch in the beginning of game two with a
carnage of errors with the Pride showing signs of offense by
freshman Shelia Curtis (Canon, MA/Fontbonne Academy) who
capitalized on key mistakes. But the Mustangs came stampeding back
to tie the game at 17-17 only to take the lead. Outside
hitter’s Chelsea Darnell (Dublin, OH/Dublin
Scioto) and Amanda Pereira (New Bedford,
MA/New Bedford) led the charge, along with
outstanding leadership by Xenos, to reenergize her teammates to a
30-21 game two victory, going ahead 2-0.
Game three was tight in the beginning until the Mustangs crept away
at the 16-11 mark. There was a key injury for MIC when libero
Andrea Bobadilla (Marshfield,
MA/Marshfield) dove for a ball and tweaked her
shoulder, leaving them without a defensive specialist. But the
leadership of Xenos and the drive of her teammates gave them the
chance to close out the match 30-19 with the 3-0 shutout.
Mount Ida will get on the road to the Great Northeast Athletic
Conference (GNAC) Tournament this Tuesday; they will wait to see
who their opponent will be over the weekend.
