FINAL:              LASELL 13, MOUNT IDA 12

AUBURNDALE, Mass. --  Senior Alex McCormack-Kuhman’s (Wells, Maine) goal with 4:04 remaining proved to be the game-winner as Lasell rallied from a seven-goal first half deficit to post a 13-12 Great Northeast Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse victory over Mount Ida Monday afternoon at Grellier Field.

The host Lasers (7-6, 7-1 GNAC) trailed by one (3-2) midway through the first quarter before the visiting Mustangs (7-8, 6-2 GNAC) netted six unanswered goals, including two off the stick of junior Kyle Ton (Norwich, Conn.), to extend their lead to 9-2 just 3:55 into the second stanza.  Lasell closed back to within four with three straight tallies, including two by McCormack-Kuhman, to slice its deficit to 9-5, but Ton’s man-up marker with 2:06 remaining in the half staked Mount Ida to a 10-5 advantage at the break.

Junior Ryan Madden (Hingham, Mass.) sparked a six-goal third quarter outburst for the Lasers by netting three tallies in the frame, as Lasell used seven unanswered markers over a 15-plus minute stretch to take a 12-10 lead on McCormack-Kuhman’s marker with 12:01 to play in the match.  Tallies by Ton and junior Owen LaPorte (Farmington, Conn.) in a 2:27 span evened matters for the Mustangs with 5:23 remaining and set up McCormack-Kuhman’s game-winner just 1:19 later, as Mount Ida had a chance to knot the score in the closing 2:34 before the hosts ran out the clock on a man-advantage situation.

Madden and McCormack-Kuhman each finished with four goals and an assist in the win for Lasell, which received a hat trick and a helper from junior Austin Shindoll (Denver, Colo.).  Junior Mike Susi (Gorham, Maine) added a marker and assist as well for the Lasers, who received a tally from junior James Torosian (Lynn, Mass.) along with five helpers off the stick of senior Austin Tomasetti (Elmsford, N.Y.).

LaPorte finished with a game-high five goals in the setback for Mount Ida, while Ton became the 21st member of the Mustang 100 Point Club after netting four goals and an assist for five points.  Freshman Mike Alibrandi (Holliston, Mass.), who was named earlier today as the GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week, added a marker and three helpers for the visitors, who received a tally and an assist from sophomore Dakari Eason (Norwalk, Conn.).  Junior Matt Curran (Abington, Mass.) collected a goal on the day for Mount Ida, which also received a pair of helpers off the stick of senior Marcus Donahue (Braintree, Mass.).

Sophomore Ryan Janovic (East Lyme, Conn.) picked up the win in goal with five saves in 47-plus minutes of action for Lasell, which received a stop from junior Andrew Modugno (Medford, Mass.).  Senior Cam Hayward (Derry, N.H.), who was tabbed as the GNAC Corvias Goalie of the Week on Monday, made nine saves in the setback for Mount Ida, as the Lasers outshot the Mustangs by a 35-34 margin overall (22-18 on goal) and held a 15-13 edge in the face-off circle for the contest.

Mount Ida hosts Johnson & Wales in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference outing on Wednesday evening at Alumni Field beginning at 6:00 p.m., while Lasell entertains Emmanuel in a GNAC clash on Wednesday afternoon at Grellier Field that begins at 4:00 p.m.
