FINAL:              GORDON 10, MOUNT IDA 5

NEWTON, Mass. --  Seniors Nico Manganiello (Peabody, Mass.) and Nick Palandjian (Belmont, Mass.) each netted four goals and an assist to lead Gordon to a 10-5 non-league college men’s lacrosse victory over Mount Ida Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The visiting Fighting Scots (3-3) jumped out to a 5-0 first quarter advantage on the strength of two Palandjian tallies, and Gordon extended that margin to 7-0 midway through the second stanza before settling for a 7-1 edge at the break.  After junior Eric Walker (Newington, Conn.) sliced the host Mustangs’ (0-5) deficit to five with a marker just 1:50 after intermission, the two teams traded goals for the remainder of the match, as the visitors received man-up markers from Manganiello and Palandjian while the hosts collected man-down tallies off the sticks of senior Marcus Donahue (Braintree, Mass.) and freshman Mike Alibrandi (Holliston, Mass.) during that stretch.

Junior Austin Early (Palmyra, Va.) added a goal and two assists to finish with three points in the win for Gordon, which received a marker from junior Jason Dantona (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), two assists from sophomore Dan Arthur (Manorville, N.Y.) and a single helper off the stick of freshman Tytus Moen (Agawam, Mass.).  Juniors Kyle Ton (Norwich, Conn.) and Owen LaPorte (Farmington, Conn.) added tallies in the setback for Mount Ida, which received a pair of assists from sophomore Dakari Eason (Norwalk, Conn.).

Sophomore Jay Gallipo (Dover, N.H.) picked up the win in goal with 12 saves for Gordon, while senior Cam Hayward (Derry, N.H.) made 13 stops in the setback for Mount Ida as the Fighting Scots held a 37-29 advantage in shots (23-17 on goal) on the afternoon, but the Mustangs held a 14-5 edge in face-off wins for the contest.

Mount Ida hosts Albertus Magnus in its Great Northeast Athletic Conference opener on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field that begins at 2:30 p.m., while Gordon entertains Nichols in its Commonwealth Coast Conference lid-lifter on Saturday afternoon in Wenham, Mass. beginning at 3:00 p.m.
