NEWTON, Mass. -- The 2015 Mount Ida College men's lacrosse season saw the Mustangs return to a familiar place - the conference championship game.
Mount Ida returned to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) title clash for the for the fifth time in the last six years, making their 11th appearance in a conference final since 2004.
To get there, the Mustangs compiled an 11-5 record, including a 7-1 mark in the GNAC, which clinched the #2 seed in the conference tournament. They ran off a ten-game winning streak from March 28th to April 23rd, including a thrilling triple overtime win over rival Norwich in a game that would earn the inaugural Mighty Award for "Best Game" at the 2015 end of the year banquet.
Mount Ida beat the Cadets again in another tight game, a 6-5 victory in the GNAC semifinals that sent them to the championship, where they fell to defending champions Emmanuel.
For their efforts, midfielder Chad Coehlo (Salem, Mass.) and defenseman Kyle Fernitz (Northbrook, Ill.) were named Second Team All-GNAC.
Off the field, Mount Ida men's lacrosse saw five players named GNAC Academic All-Conference, and two players, seniors Shaun Royce (S. Windsor, Conn.) and Joe Galante (Framingham, Mass.) earned New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Academic All-Region accolades.
Head Coach Andrew Fink, in his twelfth year at the helm, was named Mount Ida College Coach of the Year for the third time in his tenor.
