PAXTON, Mass.—Sixteen different players scored for Mount Ida College on Tuesday evening as the Mustangs defeat Anna Maria 21-3 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
The Mustangs were paced by Peter Hardy (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and Lucas Stralka (East Greenwich, R.I.) with three goals apiece. Ryan Trinque (East Greenwich, R.I.) finished with two goals, while Chad Coehlo (Salem, Mass.) and Chris Kidger (Groton, Mass.) had two assists each.
The AMCATS were led offensively by Alex Rezendes (Nantucket, Mass.) with two goals and Jonathan McDonald (Marlborough, Mass.) with one. Senior Dennis Tran (Worcester, Mass.) dished out one assist for Anna Maria.
Mount Ida held an 8-0 lead after the first quarter and opened the gap by five more goals in the second quarter. The AMCATS opened the third quarter with a goal by Rezendes to snap the shutout opportunity for Mount Ida goaltender Cam Hayward (Derry, N.H.).
Hayward turned aside 11 shots on the evening to earn his third win of the season in net. Zachary Sylvia (Tiverton, R.I.) took the loss for Anna Maria, tallying 12 saves in 33 shots faced.
The Mustangs won 23 out of 27 face-offs, led by a nine-for-nine effort by Erik Berman (Montclair, N.J.).Berman also finished with a game-high 10 ground balls. Senior Nathan Batallas (Templeton, Mass.) tallied five ground balls for Anna Maria.
The Mustangs will travel to Regis on Friday at 4:00 p.m. for a non-conference game.
The AMCATS will return to action on Thursday for a 7:00 p.m. home non-conference game against Becker.
