Monday, April 29, 2013 (Newton, Massachusetts) - Four Mount Ida College men’s lacrosse players and one women's lacrosse player were recognized for their tremendous accomplishments throughout the 2013 season by being awarded with GNAC All-Conference selections as well as Sportsmanship awards.
Men's Lacrosse
Senior Nick Yacuzzi (Oakham, MA/St. John's-Shrewsbury), senior Nick Maurais (Peabody, MA/Peabody) and sophomore Michael Trocchi (Danvers, MA/Danvers) were all voted to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference First Team. Along with those awards, Trocchi was voted GNAC Player of the Year while freshman Phil Pichel (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) was named GNAC Rookie of the Year.
Yacuzzi, 1st Team All GNAC, had a spectacular year offensively as he amassed a total of 34 goals and 7 assists good for 41 points on the season. Maurais had a great season defensively for the Mustangs causing 21 turnovers, picking up 44 ground balls, all while scoring one goal and tallying four assists.
Trocchi, 1st Team All GNAC & GNAC Player of the Year, compiled season totals of 26 goals and a conference high 42 assists totaling 68 points throughout the 2013 campaign. In just his second season in a Mustang uniform, Trocchi also tallied his 100th career point earlier in the season.
Pichel, named GNAC Rookie of the Year, had a tremendous freshman season while tallying 40 goals and 21 assists on the season while compiling 61 points, good for second in the league in total points.
Sophomore attack Kareem Cope (Stamford, CT/Forman School) was voted to the GNAC Sportsmanship Team.
Women's Lacrosse
Mount Ida College sophomore Amanda Bowen was voted to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference First Team.
The sophomore registered 46 goals and 11 assists on the season while totaling 57 points. Bowen has been a focal point for Head Coach Nicole Poli's offense in her first season at the helm. As a sophomore, Bowen will look to continue to boost her numbers over the course of the next two seasons.
Senior Class President and senior defense Alexandria Milot (Tiverton, RI/Tiverton) was selected to the GNAC Sportsmanship Team.
