MEN'S LAX FALLS TO GNAC RIVAL LASELL 7-6 SATURDAY

Saturday, April 7, 2012 (Newton, Massachusetts) - For the first time since joining the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) a season ago, the Mount Ida College men's lacrosse team was downed by neighboring cross town rival Lasell College Saturday afternoon falling 7-6 in dramatic fashion.

The Mustangs, who captured the 2011 GNAC title over the Lasers a year ago, fall for the first time in league action through two years of competition.  Mount Ida falls to an overall record of 7-4 with a conference slate of 4-1.  The hosts remain perfect in GNAC play at 5-0 atop the league standings with a 7-4 record for 2012.

Pat Bresnahan (Manchester, NH) scored the game winning goal for Lasell with 5:25 remaining in the fourth period.  Mount Ida had a tough first half falling behind early only to play catch up in the second stanza.

Lasell's Adam Foss (Billerica, MA) started the scoring off for the first quarter with an assist by Dylan Gray (Bayport, NY).  Mount Ida answered back with a man-up goal by Nick Yacuzzi (Oakham, MA/St. John's-Shrewsbury) bringing the score to a 1-1 tie.  Pat Bresnahan scored his first goal of the game with 2:01 remaining in the first period giving Lasell the lead, 2-1.  The Mustangs were unable to score during the second quarter giving the Lasers the opportunity to increase their lead to 5-1 with goals by Jake LaMorte (Walpole, MA), Bresnahan, and Gray.

Mount Ida came back in the second half to score three goals before Lasell could reconnect with the net.  Goals by Jake Davis (Chester, NH/Pinkerton Academy), Gilson Fernandes (Saugus, MA/Saugus), and Michael Trocchi (Danvers, MA/Danvers) helped the Mustangs catch up to the Lasers bringing the score to 5-4, Lasell.  An extra man opportunity kept Lasell alive in the second quarter with a goal by LaMorte, giving the Lasers a two goal lead.  Fernandes tried to close in on the Lasers lead by scoring the first goal of the fourth quarter, bringing it back to a one goal game.  Bresnahan scored shortly after, giving Lasell their final goal of the game.  Mount Ida quickly answered with another goal seconds later by Fernandes putting the final score at 7-6, Lasell.

Mount Ida will host Emerson in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play on Wednesday April 11th at 4:00pm.
