MEN'S LAXERS SAVAGE/EAGAN PLAY IN NEILA EAST/WEST GAME

Mount Ida College men’s lacrosse senior’s Billy Eagan (North Andover, MA/North Andover) and Matthew Savage (Peabody, MA/Peabody) were selected to play in the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association’s (NEILA) annual East/West game this past Sunday at Endicott College.  Savage tallied a goal in the 18-9 victory for the East while Eagan scooped up four groundballs with a couple clears as well.

This is the second time in consecutive years a Mount Ida men’s laxer was selected to compete in the contest.  2010 graduates Matthew Vernik (Bethany, CT/Amity Regional) and Christopher Prophete (Waltham, MA/Waltham) were selected to play in last year’s bout.

Savage, who was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s (GNAC) Offensive-Player-of-the-Year, was also named to the 2011 GNAC first team all-conference with four other Mustangs.  In 17 games played this year, Savage scored 34 goals and dished out 11 assists good for 45 total points leading the Mustangs in scoring for the year. Savage finished 2011 ranked sixth overall in goals per game (1.93) in the GNAC good for a .400 shooting percentage. His best outing of the season came against Massachusetts Maritime Academy with a six point performance (6 goals, 1 assist).  Savage was the key offensive component to Mount Ida’s success this season.  Out of the 17 contest’s he played in 11 of them were double digit goal performances.  Savage ended his Mount Ida career with 203 total points and became the fifth member to join the 200 point club.

Eagan, who turned in another impressive year with the Mustangs, was a part of two North Atlantic Conference (NAC) championships, was a first team NAC all-conference selection in 2009.  Billy has scooped up 93 groundballs and has caused 29 turnovers for his career.  Although he is a defender, Billy notched three goals and one assist during his tenure as a Mustang.
