Pride Rush Their Way to Lopsided Victory

NEWTON, Mass. – Springfield College ran for 469 yards and scored nine touchdowns on the ground as they came to Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon and handed Mount Ida College a 66-20 defeat in non-conference football action.

Freshman De'Andre Goldson-Fisher (Springfield, Mass.) was one of the bright spots for Mount Ida, rushing for 74 yards on just seven carries, an average of 10.6 yards per rush. Goldson-Fisher added a touchdown in the fourth quarter and Marcus Mcbean (Dorchester, Mass.) ran for two touchdowns on 76 yards, but Mount Ida couldn't stop the many headed rushing attack of the Pride (3-0).

Jordan Wilcox (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Hunter Belzo (Middletown, Conn.) each ran for over 100 yards, with Wilcox scoring three times and Belzon finding the end zone twice.

Though he only attempted two passes and did not complete either one, senior quarterback Jake Eglintine (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) rushed 12 times for 71 yards and two scores, and freshman David Wells (Shelton, Conn.) made plays with his feet in relief of Eglintine, running for a 40-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Junior Joshua Thomas (Dartmouth, Mass.) got into the scorebook with a 53-yard rush to cap the game's scoring with just seconds left.

Mount Ida senior linebacker Josh David (Sandown, N.H.) had ten tackles to lead all players, but Springfield was ahead 21-0 by the end of the first quarter before Mcbean scored on a 17 yard run less than a minute into the second period.

Belzo, Eglintine twice, and Wilcox all found paydirt before the break, and Springfield was up 42-7 behind 246 yards rushing as the teams went to the locker rooms.

Christian Humulock (Narragansett, R.I.) was a perfect nine for nine on extra points, and also converted a 33 yard field goal for the Pride.

Sophomore Mike Pina (Brockton, Mass. Completed 13 of 23 passes for 131 yards, but was picked off three times on the day, including once by Dominic Traversa (Pittsfield, Mass.), who also had one of four Pride sacks and two tackles for a loss.

Mustang junior DeSean Hart (Mays Landing, N.J.) had a sack and two fumble recoveries.

Mount Ida (1-2) will look to rebound before their Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) opener, which comes on September 30th after a bye week. In two Saturday's, Gallaudet comes to town for a 12:00 PM game.

Springfield begins New England Men's and Women's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play next Saturday when they host WPI at 2:30 PM.
