CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Former Mount Ida College All-Conference quarterback Jawad Yatim (Shrewsbury, Mass.) has been signed by the Cedar Rapids Titans of the Indoor Football League (IFL).
The organization announced the signing of the 6' 1", 200 lb. quarterback who spent two years as a Mustang on Tuesday afternoon.
Appearing in 20 games for the Mustangs, Yatim completed 241 of 463 passes for 3,038 yards and 27 touchdowns. He also recorded 215 on the ground while adding nine rushing touchdowns. He was honored by the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) as a member of the All-ECFC Second Team in his junior season, and was named to the Honorable Mention list in 2014 as a senior.
"Having Jawad in camp will provide great competition," Titans co-owner and general manager Chris Kokalis reflected. "He's an athletic quarterback and a quick learner so I think he'll pick up the indoor game well."
Yatim was selected to participate in the 2014 National Bowl Game, an annual post-season all-star game for seniors from non-FBS schools.
Prior to his time at Mount Ida, Yatim played a season for the Dean Junior College (MA) Bulldogs. While at Dean, Yatim threw for 1,065 yards and eight touchdowns on 82 passes.
The Indoor Football League (IFL) is a professional indoor American football league created in 2008 out of the merger between the Intense Football League and United Indoor Football. The league is the second highest tier in indoor/arena football behind the Arena Football League. The 2016 season will feature 11 teams in two conferences in a 16-game schedule.
The Cedar Rapids Titans joined the IFL as an expansion team in 2011 and first took the field for the 2012 season. Members of the United Conference, the Titans played their home games at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena from 2012 to 2013. In 2014 they relocated to the newly renovated U.S. Cellular Center. They are the first indoor team to be based in Cedar Rapids. The Titans have appeared in two United Conference Championship Games (2013, 2014), losing to the Sioux Falls Storm both times.
