NEWTON, Mass. – The Mount Ida College football team had nine members recognized by the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC), as the league announced their All-Conference team on Monday afternoon.
The defensive unit led the way, with three players named to the First Team Defense, including defensive linemen Dom Spaulding (W. Hartford, Conn.) and Chris Toyloy (Yonkers, N.Y.), and linebacker Sean Chinova (Watertown, Conn.).
Fullback Josh David (Sandown, N.H.) and wide receiver/return specialist Matt Greenman (Portsmouth, R.I.) were both named to the Second Team Offense.
Among the Honorable Mentions were Mustang freshmen Amir Young (Pleasantville, N.Y.) and Daniel Billy (Bradenton, Fla.), sophomore punter Devin Broadley (Hyannis, Mass.), and senior running back Melquawn Pinkney (Springfield, Mass.).
The leader on the team in tackles with 111, Chinova was second in the conference in that same category, and led the league with 20.5 tackles for a loss, 6.5 more than the next closest player. The sophomore linebacker also had two interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Spaulding makes his second straight First Team appearance after racking up 42 tackles and five sacks, tied for fifth in the conference despite missing a pair of games. Spaulding forced a fumble and broke up a pair of passes while recording 13 tackles for a loss.
Toyloy capped his Mustang career with 4.5 sacks and 9.5 tackles for a loss, as well as two fumble recoveries and a blocked kick.
Making his third straight appearance on the ECFC All-Conference squad, Greenman was honored as both a wide receiver and a return specialist. In the slot, Greenman led the Mustangs with 27 receptions in 7 games, hauling in 410 yards and three touchdowns. As a kick returner, he amassed over 300 all-purpose yards and ran back a punt 82 yards for a touchdown in a conference road game against SUNY Maritime.
Josh David contributed both in the rushing and passing attack out of the Mustang backfield, catching 12 passes for 130 yards and rushing 12 times for 70 yards.
Young stepped into a starting role on the offensive line, while Billy became a significant part of the Mustang defensive back unit, with one interception and a fumble recovery, along with a team-high three pass breakups.
In his final season as a Mustang, Pinkney led the team with eight rushing touchdowns and averaged 75.1 yards per game on the ground.
A preseason All American, Broadley averaged 35.5 yards per punt, pinning opponents inside of the twenty yard line on eight occasions.
