Mustangs Downed by Maritime in ECFC Road Game

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Mount Ida College dropped a 42-16 decision to SUNY Maritime on the road on Saturday afternoon in Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) action on Reinhart Field. 

Junior Matt Greenman (Portsmouth, R.I.) provided the biggest spark for Mount Ida, returning a punt 82 yards for a touchdown, and senior running back Melquawn Pinkney (Springfield, Mass.) rushed 18 times for 91 yards and a touchdown. 

Tyler Rogers (Bridgewater, Mass.) kicked a 28-yard field goal to account for the rest of the Mount Ida scoring for the Mustangs. 

Freshman quarterback Jack Sheehan (St. Petersburg, Fla.) threw for 163 yards, completing 16 of 30 passes. Six of those completions went to Josh David (Sandown, N.H.), who had 82 yards receiving and 44 yards rushing. Sophomore Travis O'Brien (Portsmouth, R.I.) added five catches for 67 yards, while Zach Samiljan (Sparta, N.J.) caught five balls for 43 yards. 

Defensively, the Mustangs got seven tackles apiece from five different players, including Chris Toyloy (Yonkers, N.Y.), who also had a half sack, Chris Medeiros (Pelham, N.H.), who locked a kick, and senior Dom Spaulding (W. Hartford, Conn.). 

Maritime got six touchdowns on the day with four coming on the ground. Junior Brett McKinney (Westernville, N.Y.) led the team with 138 yards rushing while scoring a pair of touchdowns. 

Junior Krystian Cardinal-Charles (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also had a 50-yard touchdown run, while sophomore Devin Kenny (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded a touchdown late in the game.
 
The passing game had three completions, with two of those catches going for scoring plays. Junior Nick Fischetti (Seaford, N.Y.) picked up another passing touchdown as he found sophomore Matt Ward(Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) for a 68-yard score, while senior quarterback Zack Chilcott (Ulster Park, N.Y.) hooked up with Fischetti for another touchdown score.
 
On defense, Maritime was led by senior Kameron Knight (Clayton, N.C.) with 11 stops on the afternoon; he also recorded one sack, picked up a fumble, and was responsible for two pass breakups. Sophomore Nick Conte (Franklin Square, N.Y.) had a big day in the secondary, as the safety recorded seven tackles on the day. Senior Beau Warrington(Milford, Del.) had six stops, while classmate Michael Brunk (Hidden Valley Lake, Calif.) had three tackles, with two sacks for a loss in 15 yards, and also forced a fumble. 

Maritime (4-5, 2-4 ECFC) will conclude the 2015 season a week from Saturday, when the team plays host to the Gallaudet Bison for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Reinhart Field.
 
Mount Ida (2-7, 2-4 ECFC) will finish off its season with the Husson Eagles in Bangor, Maine next Saturday with a 12 p.m. kickoff.
