NEWTON, Mass. -- Mount Ida College senior Matt Martin (Arlington, Mass.) was named the Eastern Collegiate Fotball Conference (ECFC) Defensive Player of the Week, announced on Monday mornign by the confernece office.

Martin was an integral part of the Mount Ida defense that helped post a 41-6 victory over Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon to put the Mustangs at 2-1 in conference play for the year.

The senior linebacker had two sacks and an interception, as well as seven tackles for the Mount Ida defense, which limited the Amcats to just 46 yards on the ground and 157 yards of total offense. Martin's interception came on the Mount Ida 10 yard line in the fourth quarter and stopped the Amcats from getting in the end zone on the afternoon.

This is the first conference weekly award of the year for Martin, who is second on Mount Ida's defensive unit with 52 tackles, and also has a forced fumble, recovery, and three pass breakups on the season.

Mount Ida (2-4) heads to Becker College this weekend for another important ECFC game, a 2:00 pm showdown with the Hawks.
