Two Mustangs Tabbed as Preseason All-Americans

NEWTON, Mass. – Two members of the Mount Ida College football team were selected as players to watch for the upcoming 2015 season by USA College Football, who announced their list of Preseason All-Americans.

Punter Devin Broadley (Hyannis, Mass.) and placekicker Tyler Rodgers (Bridgewater, Mass.) each earned Honorable Mention Special Teams selections.

Broadley, a sophomore who was a 2014 USA College Football All-American selection, had one of the best seasons by a Mustang punter. He averaged 35.8 yards per boot last year, pinning the opponent inside of their 20 yard-line on 17 occasions. His longest punt of the year was a 60-yarder, which places him sixth in the Mount Ida record books. Broadley was also named ECFC Rookie of the Week last year after punting nine times in windy conditions against Becker and pinning the Hawks inside their own twenty four times and was named ECFC Second-Team All-Conference after leading the league in yards per punt.

In his first year with the Mustangs, the sophomore Rodgers was named ECFC Honorable Mention himself, going perfect on three field goal attempts, including a long of 41 yards, and kicking 16 extra points. His touchdown run on a fake field goal and subsequent extra point were all the scoring Mount Ida needed in a 7-6 win over Maritime, and they earned him both ECFC and Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Special Teams Player of the Week.

The Mustangs kick off their 2015 season on September 4th when they travel to UMass Dartmouth for a 7:00 pm game under the lights.
