MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior offensive lineman Frank Civitello (West Haven, Conn.) added another honor to his mantle on Tuesday afternoon, as he was named to the 2013 New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England team.
Civitello, the reigning Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) Offensive Lineman of the Year, finishes off a four year career for the Mustangs in which he was the anchor of a line that helped the Mustangs consistently dictate the game by pounding the ball on the ground, this year running for over 120 yards a game.
Twenty-eight players representing 21 different teams were been named to the 2013 New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England team.
Civitello is the second straight Mustang lineman to earn the accolade, following Matt Bonomolo, who also was ECFC OL of the Year a season ago. He is one of just three selections from the ECFC this year, joined by defensive lineman Ernest Wiggins from Husson and linebacker Melvin Booker from Becker.
Northeast-10 Conference member Assumption College leads the team with three selections, while New England Football Conference members Endicott College and Salve Regina University have two picks, as do Stonehill College from the Northeast-10, Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference champion Framingham State University and MASCAC member Bridgewater State University. Also named to the squad were players from American International College, Bates College, Becker College, Bentley University, Bowdoin College, Husson College, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Merrimack College, Middlebury College, Mount Ida College, the University of New Haven, Springfield College, Trinity College, Western Connecticut State University and Westfield State University
The Division II Northeast-10 Conference had nine players selected, while from Division III the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference had seven picks, and the New England Football Conference and the New England Small College Athletic Conference had four picks each. One player came from Springfield College which is not affiliated with a New England Conference.
The team will be honored at the New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 12, at the Montvale Plaza, in Stoneham, Mass. People interested in attending should contact Dick Lipe at Bentley University at 781-891-2334.
