NEWTON, Mass. -- Junior quarterback Jawad Yatim (Shrewsbury, Mass.) helped Mount Ida even their Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) record at 1-1 on Saturday with a victory over Castleton State College.
On Monday, he was announced by the conference as the Offensive Player of the Week, marking the second time a Mount Ida player has garnered a weekly award from the ECFC.
Yatim completed 15-27 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns this weekend, as Mount Ida beat the Spartans 37-19 in Castleton on Saturday.
He hit three different receivers for touchdowns, including a strike to freshman Matt Greenman (Portsmouth, R.I.) with 7 seconds left in the first half, which gave the Mustangs the lead at the half.
Yatim also connected on a 33-yard heave to Chandler McCoy (Norcross, Ga.) in the third quarter, which gave the Mustangs the lead for good, and a six yard pass to Zach Siegenthaler (Parkland, Fla.) in the fourth quarter to help Mount Ida extend their lead.
Yatim joins Jovan Wilkins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), who was named ECFC Defensive Player of the Week in the first week of the season, as the two Mustangs to be honored so far this year.
Mount Ida will be home again this weekend for an ECFC game against Anna Maria. The Mustangs and Amcats will kick off at 1:00 pm on Alumni Field.
