CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The five-days between meetings of the Rams and Mustangs did not change the results as the third-seeded Suffolk women's tennis team swept six seed Mount Ida, 5-0, in the quarterfinals of the GNAC tournament, Buckingham, Browne & Nichols.
Mount Ida ends their 2016 season with a 1-11 record, while Suffolk (9-8) advances to the semifinals where it will meet second-seeded Simmons Saturday, Oct. 22 at 4:30 p.m. at the Winchester Tennis Center.
Jenna Jarman (Auburn, N.Y.) and Rebecca Levy (Plymouth, Mass.) came just short of stealing a point at first singles for Mount Ida, falling to Valentina Medina and Isabel Rathlev 8-6.
Suffolk wound end up sweeping the doubles courts using two 8-0 wins and posted back-to-back perfect sets on courts three and four in singles play to lock up the 5-0 win in a match that was played to decision.
Aidiana Sagyndykova and Elena Cisernos Garcia got the day going with an 8-0 decision over Katlyn Jesse (Marshfield, Mass.) and Yuliana Chairez (Waltham, Mass.) in the second spot.
Christina Texidor and Eugenia Skorobogatov locked up a 2-0 Suffolk lead thanks to a 6-0, 6-0 win on court three against Amanda Garner (Coventry, R.I.) and Hannah Bassett (Needham, Mass.).
