PAXTON, Mass.—The Mount Ida College women's tennis team forfeited two matches but still managed to pull off five wins to earn their first win of the 2016 season in 5-4 fashion over the AMCATS of Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
With the win, Mount Ida improves to 1-5 on the season and 1-1 in the GNAC, while Anna Maria falls to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in league play.
DOUBLES
Mount Ida took two hard-fought wins in doubles play as Jenna Jarman (Auburn, N.Y.) and Rebecca Levy (Plymouth, Mass.) downed Anna Maria's Jessica Gautieri (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Johanna Dean (Carrollton, Texas) 8-4 at the top bill. At No. 2 singles, Yuliana Chairez (Waltham, Mass.) and Katlyn Jesse (Marshfield, Mass.) held on for an 8-6 win over Laura Cabral (Fall River, Mass.) and Marrissa Leonard (Billerica, Mass.).
Due to the lack of a sixth player, the AMCATS took a default win in the third doubles slot, so the Mustangs took a 2-1 lead enter singles play.
SINGLES
The Mustangs took victories at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 5 singles to take the match. Jarman, Levy, and Chairez were all victorious in their singles pairings. Anna Maria claimed wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, as Cabral and Leonard both tallied victories.
