NEWTON, Mass. – Mount Ida got victories from their first and second singles teams and their top doubles tandem but fell to visiting Becker College 6-3 in non-conference women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at Mount Ida Tennis Center.
Rebecca Levy (Plymouth, Mass.) and Jenna Jarman (Auburn, Mass.) each won at singles and together earned an 8-0 victory at first doubles, over Jennifer Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and Jacqueline Andrade (Somerset, Mass.).
Levy defeated Lord 6-1, 6-0, while Jarman won by opposite set scores over Andrade at second singles.
The Hawks had taken a 2-1 lead heading into singles thanks to a #2 doubles win by Emily Wodell (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Dana Mahan (Manville, R.I.), who edged Yuliana Chairez (Waltham, Mass.) and Danielle Barnabe (Warwick, R.I.) 8-5.
Barnabe played at the #3 singles spot, falling 6-0, 6-4 to Jessica Leger (Auburn, Mass.).
Junior Katlyn Jesse (Marshfield, Mass.) made her Mount Ida tennis debut and fell 6-2, 6-1 at fifth singles, while Renee Randazzo (Gloucester, Mass.) did the same at sixth singles, and was beaten by Kerry Saltvick (Bakersfield, Calif.) 6-1, 6-1.
Saltvick and Leger teamed up to beat Randazzo and Jesse 8-1 to collect the point at third doubles.
Mount Ida (0-2) continues a five-game homestand to start the season, but not until September 17th when they host Curry at 3:00 pm.
Becker, who picked up their first win of the year, return home to host MCLA on Labor Day at 3:00 pm.
