NEWTON, Mass. – Freshman Jenna Jarman (Auburn, Mass.) won both of her matches in her collegiate debut, but it wasn't enough to help the Mustangs overcome visiting Eastern Nazarene College in non-conference women's tennis action on Tuesday afternoon.
Jarman won 6-3, 7-5 over senior Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.) at second doubles after pairing with Mustang sophomore Rebecca Levy (Plymouth, Mass.) to take an 8-4 win at first doubles over Burrello and Adele Duval (Dallas, Texas).
Duval, the freshman, was victorious over Levy at first singles by identical 6-2 scores.
Despite not taking any other points, the Mustangs battled hard, taking games at each of the other doubles positions.
At third singles, Rose Schneider (Lowell, Mass.) fell 6-1, 6-2 to sophomore Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.), while Danielle Barnabe (Warwick, R.I.) suffered a 6-0, 6-3 loss at the hands of Julie Sutton (Middletown, Conn.) at number four.
Sophomore Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) earned a pair of points for the Lions, beating Yuliana Chairez (Waltham, Mass.) 6-0, 6-0 at the five spot and pairing with Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine) for an 8-1 win at third doubles.
Sam Laferriere (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Sydney Fredette (Hudson, Mass.) each made their tennis debuts for the Mustangs, with Laferriere being edged narrowly in the second set, 7-5, by Jordan Price (Snow Hill, Md.) at six singles.
The Mustangs hit the courts again on Saturday afternoon when they host Becker at 12:00 pm at Mount Ida Tennis Courts.
The Lions play their home opener on Thursday against Regis at 3:30.
