WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Freshman Olivia Budney (Webster, Mass.) earned a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (10-8) victory at second singles for Mount Ida's only win in an 8-1 defeat to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe University of Saint Joseph on Saturday afternoon.
Emely Chenard (Meriden, Conn.) and Lisa Wawrzynowski (Newington, Conn.) were double-winners for the Blue Jays, who improved to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the GNAC. Mount Ida falls to 0-4 and drop their first conference match of the year.
Budney defeated Amanda Willhoft (Manchester, Conn.), who paired with Chenard for an 8- win over Patti-Ann Doucette (Lynn, Mass.) and Danielle Barnabe (Warwick, R.I.).
Wawrzynowski won at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-1 over Doucette and teamed with Monica Palmieri (Bristol, Conn.) for a victory at No. 3 doubles.
Budney and Rebecca Levy (Plymouth, Mass.) fell 8-2 at first doubles, while Levy dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Rebecca Mauri (Meriden, Conn.) at first singles.
The Mustangs travel to Curry on Wendesday for a 3:00 pm non-conference matchup.
USJ hosts UMass-Dartmouth Thursday, Sept. 25 at 3:30 p.m. in a non-conference match.
