CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Mount Ida College women's tennis team fell to the Lynx of Lesley Univeristy, 9-0, on Thursday afternoon in a non-conference tilt at Buckingham Browne and Nichols. The Mustangs drop to 0-3 on the season while Lesley improves to 3-1.
The Lesley duo of Christyl Skelton (Burlington, Vt.) and Victoria Bunker (Auburn, Maine) got the night started as they pulled an 8-0 victory in No. 3 doubles over Yuliana Chairez (Waltham, Mass.) and Rose Schneider (Lowell, Mass.). Seniors Emma True (Lee, N.H.) and Molly Phelps (Durham, Mass.) followed as they topped senior Patti-Ann Doucette (Lynn, Mass.) and sophomore e Alicia Ritchie (Andover, Conn.) 8-2 in the second doubles flight.
Lesley's top pairing of Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and Carlyn Barker (Murrieta, Calif.) rounded out doubles play with an 8-4 victory over Rebecca Levy (Plymouth, Mass.) and Olivia Budney (Webster, Mass.).
True garnered her second victory of the night with a 6-0, 6-0 decision in No. 5 singles while Lynx sophomore Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) clinched the match for the hosts with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph of her own in No. 4 singles.
Senior Meghann Toomajian (Nahant, Mass.) earned her first win of 2014 as she topped Schneider 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 6 singles match and Barker followed with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in No. 3 singles.
Lesley senior Carissa Iverson (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) defeated Budney 6-1, 6-2 in No. 2 singles and Kiddie finished the sweep with a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Levy in the top singles match.
The Lynx will return to Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols tomorrow evening as they open up New England Collegiate Conference play as they host Regis College at 6:45 p.m. The Mustangs will continue their three-match roadtrip on Saturday when they travel to St. Joseph's College (Conn.) at 1:00 p.m.
