NEWTON, Mass. – Mount Ida College finished their women's tennis home schedule on Wednesday afternoon when they hosted the University of Saint Joseph in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Mount Ida Tennis Courts, with the Blue Jays emerging from the match with a 9-0 victory.
The Mustangs took games at both first and second doubles, but saw St. Joseph take a 3-0 lead after those matches were done. Victoria Messinger (Southbury, Conn.) and Becky Kowalski fell 8-1 to Lisa Wawrzynowski (Newington, Conn.) and Meghan Toth (Naugatuck, Conn.) of St. Joseph at first doubles, while at the second spot, Jennifer Lord and Jessica Cavcali dropped a decision by the same score to Emma Allen (W. Granby, Conn.) and Rebecca Mauri (Meriden, Conn.).
Lindsay Tracy (Manchester, Conn.) and Julie Ann Robinson (Hamden, Conn.) scored an 8-0 win over Alicia Ritchie (Andover, Conn.) and Crissa Branco (Fall River, Mass.) at third doubles.
Mauri didn't drop a game in a straight-set victory over Kowalski at second singles, while Liz Wood and Branco each took a single game in the second set of their singles matches.
At fifth singles, April Loteczka (Ellington, Conn.) took a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kaytlen Putnam (Falmouth, Mass.), while Monica Palmieri (Bristol, Conn.) won by the same score over Danielle Barnabe (Warwick, R.I.).
Mount Ida, still looking for their first win of the year, will finish their season this Saturday when they travel to Albertus Magnus for their final GNAC match, a 1:00 pm start.
The Blue Jays (5-6, 2-3 GNAC) turn around tomorrow and travel to Western Connecticut State for a non-conference game at 4:00 pm.
