Mustangs Women’s Tennis Battles in GNAC Loss to Anna Maria

NEWTON, Mass. – Mount Ida took games in three different singles matches on Saturday afternoon in suffering a 9-0 defeat to Anna Maria in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's tennis action.

Jennifer Lord (Fall River, Mass.) fought fiercely at first singles before dropping a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Anna Maria freshman Jessica Gautieri (N. Attleboro, Mass.).

Lord, playing with Patti Ann Doucette (Lynn, Mass.), also took a game at first doubles, where the Mustangs matched off with Gautieri and Nicole Goudreau (Harrisville, R.I.).

Mount Ida freshman Victoria Messinger (Southbury, Conn.) took two games in her set at fifth singles, where she suffered a 6-2, 6-0 defeat to Amcats junior Kayla Buck (Wilbraham, Mass.).

At fourth singles, Jessica Caveali also had some success in her first set, but fell to Emily Williamson (Spencer, Mass.) 6-1, 6-0.

Williamson and Victoria Minotti (Shelton, Conn.) took the #2 doubles point by an 8-0 score over Caveali and Liz Wood, while Buck and Katelyn Edelson (Berlin, Conn.) won by the same score over Messinger and Danielle Barnabe (Warwick, R.I.) at third doubles.

The Mustangs (0-6, 0-2 GNAC) will host another GNAC match on October 6th when they welcome in St. Joseph (CT) for a 12:00 pm contest.

The Amcats (5-1, 2-0 GNAC) will play host to MCLA on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match.
