The Mount Ida College women's tennis team, under the direction of first year Head Coach Karen McNamara, took two of three doubles points, which proved to be the difference in the Mustangs 5-4 victory over Lesley University opener Wednesday night at the Nicholas Athletics Center. This is the Mustangs first victory of the 2012 season and the first in McNamara's collegiate coaching career.
Senior Brenna Donovan played a part in two of Lesley's four points, besting Danielle Riley 6-4, 7-5 in second singles and teaming with Katie Side to top Lizzie Olszweski (Granville, MA) and Kayla Horton (Brockton, MA) 8-4 in first doubles.
Olszweski, meanwhile, came back with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Side in first singles, but senior Anna Mason provided a critical lift for the visitors. She topped Emma True 7-5, 6-4 in sixth singles and teamed with Patti-Ann Doucette (Lynn, MA) to knock off True and Molly Phelps 8-6 in third doubles.
Lynx senior Hannah Phalen earned a 7-5, 6-3 fourth singles win over Doucette, and Phelps defeated Trish Quinn (North Haven, CT) 6-4, 6-3 in fifth singles.
The Mustangs will travel to non-league Eastern Nazarene College Friday evening with match time slated for 3:30 p.m.
