WOMEN'S TENNIS CAPTURE TWO GNAC WINS LAST WEEK

The Mount Ida College women's tennis program have captured their past two consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matches through the past week with a 9-0 victory over visiting Albertus Magnus College and again over visiting Anna Maria College witn 5-4 in dramatic fashion. 

The Mustangs improve to an overall record of 6-5 standing at 3-4 in league play.   

Against the Falcons, Mount Ida freshman Elizabeth Olszewski (Granville, MA/Granville) and junior Amy Warner (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) captured a number one doubles victory over Flacon sophomore Sandybell Anorga (Stamford, CT/Stamford) and junior Na'Tasha  Mesidor (Bridgeport, CT/Bullard Havens Tech) winning 8-1. 

Mustang junior Elyse Horton (Brockton, MA/Brockton) and sophomore Kayla Horton (Brockton, MA) captured number two doubles 8-0 while junior Melissa Smith (Warren, CT/Wamogo Regional) and senior Loni Klimbach (Rochester, NY/Greece Odyssey) added a number three doubles win (8-0).

 In singles play Olszweski (6-0, 6-0), Warner (7-5, 6-2), Smith (6-0, 6-2), Elyse Horton (6-0, 6-0), Kayla Horton (6-0, 6-0), and Nanouma Joachim (6-1, 6-0) (Lynn, MA/Classical) all captured singles wins for the 9-0 match victory.  

Against the AmCats from Anna Maria College, Mount Ida captured a very dramatic and tight 5-4 win.  Starting with doubles play, Olszewski and Warner captured number one doubles 8-4 followed by an 8-1 loss in second doubles by Elyse and Kayla Horton.  Smith and Joachim snatched a number three doubles win (8-1) to head into singles play with Mount Ida leading 2-1. 

Olszewski snatched a 6-3, 6-0 win out of the gate in number one singles against AmCat sophomore Victoria Minotti (Shelton, CT/Shelton).  Warner and Smith would take singles losses to Anna Maria sophomore Emily Williamsson (Spencer, MA/David Prouty) (6-2, 6-1) and freshman Janice Wang (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) (6-1, 6-1). 

Kayla Horton was in the fourth singles slot falling in a tight match to AmCat freshman Nicole Goudreau (Harrisville, RI/Burriville) by scores of 6-2, 3-6, 10-3.  Elyse Horton followed with a victory over Anna Maria junior Jacqui Barbaro (Middlebury, CT/Pomperaug) winning 6-1, 6-1.  It came down to the final singles match with Joachim swiftly taking care of AmCat freshman Kayla Buck (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug) 6-2, 6-2.  The Mustangs would walk away with a 5-4 win good for their third in league competition. 

The Mustangs will host their final home match of the year this Saturday with match time slated for 12:00 noon.
