The Mount Ida College tennis team got back on track Saturday afternoon in their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match of the season to visiting St. Joseph College (CT) winning 7-2. The Mustangs improve to 3-1 overall and are now standing at 1-0 in conference competition.
Freshman Elizabeth Olszewski (Granville, MA), sophomore Kayla Horton (Brockton, MA), junior Eylse Horton (Brockton, MA), and sophomore Nanouma Joachin (Lynn, MA) all captured their singles matches.
Olszweski, who has been impressive all season, won 7-6, 6-3 in a close match against Blue Jays number one freshman Meghan Toth (Naugatuck, CT).
Kayla Horton won in straight set (6-0, 6-0) against freshman Delina Andrews (Thomaston, CT) while Elyse Horton captured a 7-5, 11-9 victory in a four round tie breaker.
Joachin was impressive winning 6-2, 6-0 against Blue Jay sophomore Julie Ann Robinson (Hamden, CT).
The Mustangs swept their doubles matches with Warner and Olszewski leading the charge with a 4-1 victory over Toth and senior Kameshia Coooper (Beacon, NY).
The Horton sisters snatched an 8-6 victory over freshman Emely Chenard (Meriden, CT) and freshman Lisa Wawryznowski (Newington, CT).
Junior Melissa Smith (Warren, CT) and freshman Patti Ann Doucette (Lynn, MA) took home an 8-0 sweep in the final doubles match against Andrews and Robinson.
The Mustangs will host non-conference Eastern Nazarene College Monday at 3:00 p.m.
