Wildcats Claw by Mustangs, Take GNAC Contest, 4-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Mount Ida College women's soccer team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest to the hosting Wildcats of Johnson and Wales by a final score of 4-0. With the win, JWU improves to 10-7-1 overall and 6-3-1 in GNAC play. The setback drops Mount Ida to 3-12-1 overall and 2-7-1 in conference.

Mustang Senior Sierra Legge (Schodack Landing, N.Y.) and freshman Alee Bonola (Windsor, Conn.) each managed two shots on goal but were unable to find the back of the net.

Johnson & Wales took control of the game early and were able to get on the board at the 37:36 mark when senior Sarah Murphy (Huntington Station, N.Y.) fed to pass to junior Mackenzie Flynn(San Clemennte, Calif.) who went on a breakaway and blasted in a shot from 18 yards out to make the score 1-0. The Wildcats took the one goal lead heading into halftime with a 9-3 advantage in shots and a 4-0 lead in corner kicks for the stanza.

The Wildcats added to their lead early in the second half when senior Megan Dockweiller (Wantagh, N.Y.) blasted in a shot from 30 yards out after a pass from senior Kaitlyn Whalen(Whittier, Calif.)at the 53:25 mark for the 2-0 lead. JWU then connected on a pair of corner kicks, first when freshman Wendy Mench-Lopez (Auburn, Wash.) scored on a corner from Murphy in the 57th minute. The Wildcats then capped off the scoring for the evening at the 60:03 mark when freshman Taylor Hopkins(Warminster, Pa.)put in a corner from Dockweiller to propel the team to the 4-0 victory. JWU had a commanding 22-6 advantage in the shutout victory.

Junior Alex Place (East Greenwich, R.I.) and senior Alexa Rose (Lancaster, Pa.) each had two saves in the shutout victory for Johnson & Wales while freshman Mia Desroches (Enfield, Conn.) had nine stops in the loss for Mount Ida.

On Saturday, Legge and fellow seniors Kait Affhauser (Chesire, Mass.) and Nickole Soto (Marlboro, Mass.) will be honored on Senior Day as the Mustangs host Simmons with kickoff slated for 3:00. JWU will return to action on Saturday, October 25th when they travel to St. Joseph of Connecticut for a GNAC contest starting at 1:00 p.m.
