WOMEN'S SOCCER OUSTED BY SHARKS

Saturday, September 29th, 2012 (Newton, Massachusetts)-  The Mount Ida College women's soccer team suffered a 6-1 setback  versus Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Simmons College on Saturday night at Alumni Field.  The Mustangs could only manage three shots on net while scoring one goal, while the Sharks put ten on frame scoring six.

The Sharks got on the board early and often as Junior Kristen Heuslein (Manchester, NH) scored on a through ball that beat the Mustangs back four from Freshman Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, MA) for the early 1-0 lead.  The visitors would strike again ten minutes later when Senior Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, NH) scored on a laser from thirty yards out beating Freshman netminder Samantha Basler (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth North) for the 2-0 lead.

The visitors would keep the pressure on adding two more tallies in the 1st half from Gilbert and Sophomore Keri Acheson (Peabody, MA).  Gilbert's first collegiate score came off a corner kick from Heuslein, that Gilbert would head home for the tally.  Eight minutes later, Acheson gave the Sharks a commanding 4-0 lead just before halftime.

In the 41st minute, junior transfer Briana Tomaselli (Warwick, RI/Pilgrim) would record her 11th goal of the season on a perfectly placed through ball from Senior tri-captain Elena Ooms (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) good for Ooms' second assist on the year.  Simmons would take a commanding 4-1 lead into halftime.

The visitors would record two second half scores from freshmen Ali Berkman (Natick, MA) and Melissa DiTraglia (Cranston, RI) solidifying the GNAC victory.

With the win the Sharks improved to an overall record of 5-5 with a GNAC slate of 4-2 while the Mustangs fall to 3-6 and 1-5 in GNAC play.

The Mustangs will host conference foe Norwich University on Wednesday night at Alumni Field with kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
