Saturday, October 21, 2012 (Newton, Massachusetts) - On senior day, the Mount Ida College women's soccer team fell to visiting Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Rivier College Saturday afternoon in the back end of a double header with the men's program falling 3-1 on Alumni Field.
The Mustangs drop their third straight league bid falling to an overall record of 4-11-1, 1-10-1 in the GNAC standings while the visitors improve to 5-10-2 for the 2012 season and 2-8-2 in conference standings.
The Mount Ida College Athletic department honored nine women's soccer senior before the contest. Alison Koning (Carlisle, MA/Concord-Carlisle), Heather Harrington (Bedford, NH/Bedford), Elena Ooms (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane), Brittany Yost (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville), Meghan Moriarty (Holbrook, MA/Holbrook), Amanda Hill (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth), Kayla Musty (Topsham, VT/Oxbow), Lauren McCarthy (Latham, NY/Shaker) and Devan Meeker (Bantam, CT/Litchfield) were recognized at the beginning of the game.
The visitors went on top in the 21st minute of play on an unassisted score by junior forward Laruen Tampossi (Hollis, NH/Assumption College) for the 1-0 advantage.
Mount Ida came back three minutes later in the 24th minute of play on a 1v1 through ball from sophomore midfielder Sierra Legge (Schodack Landing, NY/Maple Hill) to junior transfer forward Brianna Tomaselli (Warwick, RI/Pilgrim) knotting the score at 1-1. After opportunities from both sides through the rest of the first half the game would hold at 1-1.
The Mustangs completely ran out of gas for the remainder of the contest surrendering two goals through the next 24 ticks adding their second goal in the 66th minute on an unassisted bid from Raider junior midfielder Christina Parent (Loudon, NH/Bishop Brady) pulling ahead 2-1.
Rivier put the contest out of reach in the 87th minute on an unassisted score from freshman forward Susan O'Loughlin (Stoneham, MA/Stoneham) for the commanding 3-1 lead and eventually the GNAC victory.
Mount Ida freshman keeper Samantha Basler (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth North) recorded eight saves while Raider freshman goaltender Kendra Shaw (Raymond, NH/Raymond) stopped 11 host shots.
The Mustangs will travel to non-conference foe Framingham State University Tuesday afternoon with game time slated for 3:00 p.m.
