Tuesday, September 11, 2012 (Newton, Massachusetts) - Mount Ida College junior transfer and forward Briana Tomaselli (Warwick, RI/Pilgrim) scored a program record five goals in a 9-1 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over visiting Anna Maria College Tuesday afternoon on Alumni Field for their first league win of 2012.
The Mustangs improve to 2-2-0 overall with a conference slate of 1-1-0 while the AmCats fall to 1-3-0 for the season standing at 0-2-0 in the GNAC.
Along with an impressive day from Tomaselli, Mount Ida senior striker Alison Koning (Carlisle, MA/Concord-Carlisle) added two goals along with two assists to Tomaselli. Mount Ida freshman Isabelle Moody (Naugatuck, CT/Naugatuck) and Kelleigh Lombard (Saugus, MA/Melrose) added a score each. Sophomore midfielder Sierra Legge (Schodack Landing, NY/Maple Hill) dished out an assist as well.
The visitors scored their only goal of the contest in the 76th minute of play on an unassisted bid from senior midfielder Tabitha Ruggeri (Palmer, MA/Tantasqua).
The Mustangs hammered out an astonishing 51 shots, 28 of which that were on net, in the GNAC victory.
Mount Ida goaltender Samantha Basler (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth North) saw the entire first half for the Mustangs between the pipes with zero saves. The visitors were only able to find the net on three occasions during the contest. Anna Mara net minder, freshman Sarah Benvenuti (Southbridge, MA/Bay Path College) got all the action stopping 19 hosting shots.
The Mustangs will travel to non-league Bay Path College Saturday afternoon with game time slated for 1:00 p.m.
