TOMASELLI DAZZLES WITH HAT TRICK, MUSTANGS WIN 7-1

Thursday, September 6, 2012 - Junior forward and transfer Briana Tomaselli (Warwick, RI/Pilgrim/Newbury College) netted a hat trick over her old squad in a 7-1 thumping against hosting Newbury College Wednesday evening in non-league action for the Mount Ida College women's soccer team's first victory of the 2012 season.

This is also the first head coaching victory for first year skipper Greg Hagan improving the Mustangs to a 1-1-0 overall record with their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest coming up against visiting St. Joseph College (CT) this Saturday at Alumni Field in Newton, Massachusetts.

In the opening 10 minutes of the game, the Mustangs struck on an unassisted score by sophomore midfielder Sierra Legge (Schodack Landing, NY/Maple Hill) leading 1-0.

In the 31st minute of play the Mustangs added another for the 2-0 advantage following a hard foul in the box that awarded Mount Ida a penalty kick that Tomaselli converted for her first of three scores on the night.

Five minutes before the midway point, the Mustangs capitalized on senior transfer Amanda Hill's (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth/UMASS-Boston) first goal as a green and white off a feed from senior Elena Ooms (Valatie, NY/Ichabod Crane) giving her team the commanding 3-0 lead heading into the break.

Early in the second half (51st minute), Tomaselli collected her second tally of the contest off Ooms's second assist of the game for the 4-0 lead.

Mount Ida continued to pile the offense on picking back up in the 64th minute taking the 5-0 advantage on senior midfielder Heather Harrington's (Bedford, NH/Manchester West)  first score of 2012 assisted by Hill.

Tomaselli added her third and final tally of the contest in the 76th minute of play on a dish from newcomer Jenna Perkins (Nottingham, NH/Coe Brown Northwood Academy) to go ahead 6-0 with no answer from the hosting Nighthawks.

After the visitors finally got on the board in the final two minutes of play making it 6-1 in favor of the Mustangs, Mount Ida capitalized on one more score in the last 30 seconds of the contest.  Senior forward Alison Koning (Carlisle, MA/Concord-Carlisle) recorded her first goal of the season on an unassisted bid for the 7-1 non-league win.

Mount Ida netminder, freshman Samantha Basler (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth North) saw the bulk of the action for the Mustangs facing only two shots in the first half with zero saves.
